Artist Statement
My art practice consists of works in two dimension and three dimension. Working in both allows myself to push my skills to new realms. I am fascinated with the great challenges and range of techniques painting and woodworking provide to me as an artist. Typically, my process involves a few pieces being worked on at any given time. Painting allows me to reach a range of emotions, narrative, and a further understanding of observing life. Woodworking provides me with a platform for functionality and a lot of opportunity for different ideas.
Throughout my body of work, I hope to create something that is thought provoking and timeless. I intend to describe, relate to, and honor different aspects of life through my use of imagery. Relationships among color and hues, variations in lighting and shadows, a still feeling, and conceptual morphing of organic forms are my main subjects in my work. I strive to trust my intuition with my process and what path I need to go down next. Inspiration comes to me pretty organically, as I often look at many other people's work. I intend to create art that brings harmony between providing calmness to the viewer while inviting them to ask new questions.
Art is a way of life for me, it is a part of my everyday routine in one way or another. I strive to be true to the techniques that I have gained through much practice. My goals in my art practice are to continue to bring my skills I have in painting and woodworking to a cohesive place that inform one another clearly.
